To be able to walk to work is a luxury factor in Istanbul, a city with a huge geographic playground. I am one of those living this luxury to the limits. I love walking, relaxing my mind; rebooting it for the new day. As I take my pace further I observe my surrounding, processing all interesting bits and pieces.
I call it the Apartment Alphabet, it’s my long lasting game to observe the names of the apartments and the fonts these names have been carved into history. In the beginning it all looked the same but as time went by I started to see the tiny differences between each font, character and artistic touch. Istanbul is just a pouring gem when it comes to apartments with a character, history and a saying. Also their names have a backbone. In the future I might dwell into certain apartments but now is the time for fonts, characteristic beauties.
You have all types; carved, signed, inscribed, calligraphist, embroidered, painted and just plain. Some have very cool names rooted to Arabic, Armenia, Greek and Ottoman vocabulary. And yet some are plain. Cool names and cool fonts come together to open up a new world of artistry for hungry eyes. I love to archive some names and fonts. Share them as much as I can and try to leave a trail behind for other interested people. Recently I have seen a lot of Istanbulites taking similar photos and sharing it with the world.
Especially old districts like Eminönü, Kurtuluş, Bomonti, Nişantaşı, Pera, Kadıköy and Şişli nestle such beauties. One after another you can work out your whole creativity. Phase into history and modernity at the same time. Or just pause and listen. This interest triggers other atmospheric visions that welcomes you. Stories, legends, arts, history, culture and all that stuff.
